                                                   GALLANTRY AWARDS 

PARAM VIR CHAKRA:

 Its India's highest military decoration awarded for the highest degree of valour or sacrifice in the presence of enemy. It can be and often has been awarded posthumously.

It is the second highest award after Bharat Ratna.

The medal, designed by Savitri Khanolkar, is a circular bronze disc 1.375 inches in diameter.

A purple ribbon, 32 millimeters long, holds the Param Vir  Chakra. Rhe medal symbolizes Rishi Dadhichi, who had donated his bones to the Gods for making Vajra.





MAHAVIR CHAKRA: 


It is the second highest military decoration in India and is awarded for acts of conspicuous gallantry in the presence of the enemy, whether on land, at sea or in the air.

VIR CHAKRA: 

The gallantry award is presented for acts of bravery in the battlefield. It is the third highest gallantry award after Param vir chakra and Mahavir chakra.

ASHOK CHAKRA:

This gallantry award is given for the bravery and sacrifice away from battlefield.

It is the peace time equivalent of Param Vir Chakra. 

It may be awarded to the civilians.




KIRTI CHAKRA

Second highest peace time gallantry award equivalent to Mahavir Chakra given for sacrifice away from battle field.

SHAURYA CHAKRA 

Third highest peace time gallantry award equivalent to Vir Chakra.
